A Very Long Drive for Coffee

February 24, 2010...woke up to some snow falling. As this winter has been most unusual, I decided this was appropriate, just to add to this unusual winter. I knew it would be gone by the end of the day, with the warm temperatures we have been having, and it was. We decided that since we had a tax appointment in Republic, we would take a drive along the Kettle River Valley and try to find this "coffee roaster" I had heard about. Must not have noticed this business along the side of the road when Rock and I first started looking for property in this beautiful area? We looked for a house in Danville, about 5 miles from Grand Forks, BC. Well, yesterday, we found him. It was so nice to meet this guy Rich Scott, who has lived in this area for over 30 years. How he started his business was just because around here, if you want something good, you have to do or make it yourself!! The Kettle River Valley is as beautiful as the San Poil Valley and on a beautiful sunny day like yesterday, even though we drove over 100 miles round trip, it was well worth it. We also have a pound of good coffee. Our tax appointment went well as it is always nice to get money back from the Government. We then had an early dinner at the one and only Mexican restaurant in Republic. Rock and I are gone so much, mostly to the "Coast" to see our children and grandchild, that when we are home for a period of time, we mostly stay home and play catch up and do the things we like to do, so a day out, is always welcome. Northeast Washington is really a beautiful area.

The coffee roaster, found it!

Beautiful "downtown" Curlew...

Why complain, when I can get a latte on the way!

February 16, 2010 Turning Two

Wait....I had to turn 40 to celebrate birthday weekend!! Amya only had to turn 2! Oh well, we all had a wonderful time. I think Amya did too. On her birthday, Tuesday, February 16, 2010....Dionne, Papa Rock, Amya and I went to this place in Preston where they have many "bouncy houses!" We could tell by how much fun Amya had there, that she is a "veteran" bouncer....after that Rock and I went over to Danielle to clean her apartment and let the dogs out, while Dionne, Brian and Amya opened her presents from Mommy and Daddy, then we all met up at swimming lessons. After that, the Grand Finale dinner at The Cheesecake Factory! I think Amya had a very fun two year birthday.

What is this now?

I guess I will have to blow these out?

Waiting patiently

Smile...

"Cheers!"

Amya's Second Birthday Visit

The day before Amya's "real" birthday, the 15th...it was a beautiful sunny day...so off to the park we went. Papa Rock put the new bike together, but it turns out, Amya already had a similar bike. So, up to the attic they went and the bike was now ready for Amya!!!! Rock and I bought her a helmut, which she seemed to love. I guess it is good to wear at the park too.

Swinging Papa Rock

Come and find me Grandma Tesh

On Valentines Day, Amya's friend Mason turned two. I am so happy that Kristin's little boy was born two days earlier than Amya as we are always in town for these two occasions! It was so good to see all the Tomlinson crew and all the mutual friends. This year Mason's birthday party was held at his Grandma and Grandpa Potter. They are really nice people and Rock and I feel so special to be a part of this group. Kristin made everything herself this year with the theme being "Monkeys!" I am pretty sure "Pappy" was the monkey suit. Mason didn't like this at all, but Amya embraced the big ole monkey. Must be from holding monkeys in Mexico. After this party Rock and I went over to Danielle and the three of us went to see our dear friend Sarah from the Mountain! Except this time she is in a rehab/nursing home after falling and breaking her leg. This is the first time I have seen Sarah in the "real world!" She is doing very well but we are not sure yet what will be happening with her leg. She might have to lose it as she is full of osteoporosis. Surgery doesn't seem an option, like she said "this leg can't be fixed!"

This year Dionne surprised us all with a "Mickey Mouse" party theme...guess you will have to have a theme each and every year now Mama Dionne. Some friends were getting worried as the Evite didn't make mention of a theme?? The party was a huge success. Everyone had a great time, including the kids (tut..tut..) Dionne rented a "bouncy house" for a few hours. The company came over, set it up and then came back and pulled it down. In spite of the rainy day, the kids all had fun jumping inside this Giraffe bouncy house. There were some quick change artists as kids were changed into "jumping clothes" and back into party clothes! Amya loved opening her presents and didn't give up halfway like she did on Christmas openings! I think her best gift was a musical card all about Shrek. She was just fascinated and held on to it for a very long time. There was tons of good food for everyone and a cupcake birthday cake. Amya wasn't too interested in eating the cake, but she loved the Caprisun drinks, something she doesn't normally get to drink...It was good to see her other Grandpa and Grandpa and all the family and friends. To me, the best thing was that I had all my family present. Danielle, I am so happy you are back in the Northwest.

The party continued for the adults well into the night, with Dionne, Jenny and I going over to Lisa and John to join Maggie and to keep up the "party spirit!"
